    How much does the trailer weigh? Did you add a transmission oil cooler? I would say 1000 pounds max. The car is not set up for towing with unibody frame, weak mount points thickness of steal etc. Can the shocks handle the loads the balance of the car in very important. Sure you can tow a boat with a lawn mower and any car. I bought a LR4 for towing my boat and and another car for economy. Doing both if only once in a while is ok I would not recommend with a Bolt though. Just asking for trouble. Rent a truck if its just once in a while. I tow a boat but use a 4x4 with real steal frame and drive like I have nothing behind it don't even feel it 70mph no issue. Why risk life over a tiny trailer.

    • @DustinBatchelor
      @DustinBatchelor 9 дней назад

      It's 850lbs and is designed to be towed by almost any car on the road. Luckily no transmission on an EV (fixed gear ratio). EVs are quite heavy and therefore have a robust shock setup. I do agree it's important to make sure you are smart with what you are towing. Putting a huge boat on the back of a Bolt is a bad idea, but with minimal tongue weight and a low tow weight, the car handles it great. Another beauty thing with an EV is you have so much power available, plus you have two strong braking systems (disc brakes and the electric motor braking). I'm currently towing this with my bigger mustang Mach E as it's a faster charging car with more range :)

    • @Physics072
      @Physics072 9 дней назад

      @@DustinBatchelor 850 pounds empty? You have to weigh it fully loaded. Are you sure there is no fluid in a Bolts Transmission. Fixed gear does not mean zero oil and zero heat. I looked it up, the fluid in a bolt is good for 150k which really means 1/2 that. If you tow often 1/2 that again. The fluid will degrade much faster under tow/heat conditions. So while its simple in moving parts he still will get hotter towing. That is why Most cars put a transmission cooler inline when they put a tow hitch on them even a Jeep. I've owned many cars since the 60s and towed boats, snowmobiles etc etc. Burned out transmission Ive been there and done that. Even own a Volt (not bolt)

    • @Physics072
      @Physics072 8 дней назад

      @@DustinBatchelor Yea I bought a Volt they have good torque. I like the backup gas generator, I don't trust pure electric (yet). I think the perfect car is a Volt with the battery of the bolt or tesla. That back up engine is a nice to have. Too bad its discontinued. Yea you should be ok even without a transmission cooler. I would change the fluid by 100k if you keep it that long and depends on how much you tow. Its a bit more wear and tear on the entire car. The tranny do have oil but fewer fail areas, they are more likely to fail on electronics in the transmission. Enjoy your set up!

    Why are they calling this a Mustang? It does not even look like one. No Mustang had 4 doors until now. No Mustang had all wheel or front wheel drive. Just slapping two ponies on a piece of metal does not make it a Mustang. Call it whatever you want, but don't call it a Mustang!

    • @DustinBatchelor
      @DustinBatchelor Месяц назад

      True, it is definitely much faster than any other factory mustang so I can see your argument :) With that being said, I myself have never attached myself to the name of the vehicle but have always looked at the merits of the vehicle itself. This has taken me to several brands in my vehicle ownership journey - Asuna, Pontiac, Chrysler, Mazda, Acura, Honda, Nissan, and Chevrolet. I'm sure Ford had a reason and it's their decision to do what they want with the naming standard. Don't let a name push you away from a truly great vehicle!

    How long do they take to charge at a public charger and with the 220v home charger?

    • @DustinBatchelor
      @DustinBatchelor 2 месяца назад

      There's lots of things that will impact charging speed. Temperature of the battery, amperage/voltage, current state of charge, and the total capacity of the battery in the car (normal vs extended). If we take best (and simple) case scenarios at home (11 kW charger), then you just need to divide the battery capacities (72 and 91) by 11. From complete zero it would take 6.5 hours for the normal capacity and 8.25 hours for extended. Public rapid charging is a bit more complex as you typically don't want to charge above 80%. The extended range will charge at up to 150 kW, but that speed increases and decreases depending on the state of charge. Plan for about thirty minutes if you are very low on charge and find a fast station.

    • @DustinBatchelor

      Thanks for the question! It's hard to equate it to mileage as your range will vary a lot based on your usage and driving situation. 8 amps will charge your car at about 0.8 kW, so if you plug in for ten hours you'd get 8 kW of energy in the battery (out of about 60 kW total battery usable). 12 amp will change you closer to 1.1/1.2 kW, so I'm ten hours you'd get closer to 12 kW of energy added to the battery.

    Thank you for this excellent rundown. I'm considering picking up one of these if I can find the right one at the right price. Everyone knows that they recently gained access to the Tesla Supercharger network. Only some people know these cars are compatible with OpenPilot, the open-source alternative to Tesla's Autopilot and Ford BlueCruise. OP gives you hands-free driving on any road at any time, so I'm with you on forgoing the BlueCruise sub. As for navigation, I prefer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay over built-in navigation systems. I would also replace the native charge planning with ABRP so long as I can manually trigger battery preconditioning. There are plenty of great tips throughout the video that are specific to the car itself, so thank you.

    I had a ‘21 Select that did have the parking assist. I tried it, and it worked, but it was also painfully slow and of limited utility. I traded this week for a ‘23 Mach-E Premium.

      @@DustinBatchelor I really loved my Select and would have been happy keeping it for years, but with the price cuts announced this week I quickly figured I could easily manage it. I live in Whitehorse, Yukon and my Select AWD was the best winter driver I’ve ever owned.

      @@Thunderbuck Do you notice any major differences after 2 months of owning the '23 Premium now over the 21' Select?

      @@lukasburkel1250 Not a ton. Better handling with the 19” wheels and the glass roof is nice (though it loses a LOT of heat in the cold).

    You can find the master door code by opening the panel in the lower front passenger area by the fusebox and read the code off the label on the Body Control Module.

      Same place as on my fusion. It took some twister like movement to get under there to find it😅

    Here is a tip. Don't buy an EV. They are crap!

      I'd have to disagree on that one! Been driving EVs since 2013 and I'll never go back!

      I've been driving EVs since 2013 when I bought a new 2012 Nissan Leaf. I've had multiple EVs since then and all of them are still on the road. It's not a concern in my opinion.

      The remaining battery life CAN be determined with an OBD-II reader. If I were buying used I’d get an inspection from a mechanic who’s experienced with EVs and they will certainly check this.

    There is no such thing as a "gas motor", however, there is an "electric motor" and a "gas engine".

    Thanks for the tips. I bought my 2020 Chevy Bolt Premier about a month ago. I'm still learning all its secrets. My console doesn't make noise but it also doesn't seem to slide back and forth. My back window washing doesnt work. No liquid comes out. Definitely need to get that looked at. Due to the sniw we got today, my back window was dirty. I found that rear view camera very handy. My infotainment screen has never froze but thanks for the reset tip if it does. The privacy screen thing is annoying. I'd like to know more about how you used the silicone.

    • @DustinBatchelor
      @DustinBatchelor 5 месяцев назад

      For the plastic privacy screen screws, I just put a pea sized bit of silicone on the plastic that the screw goes in to. Screw the piece back in and then leave it for 24 hours without the screen on. Should be dry by then

    I just renewed my $2599 power steering and $2995 power brakes subscriptions on my 1983 Mercedes 300TD diesel. The electric windscreen wiper and power windows subscriptions ($1299 each) aren't due until Spring and well worth it!
